THE QUINTESSENTIAL ‘76 LIMITING AMPLIFIER - BRIDGING THE GAP!
We are proud to add the 76D to the line-up of USA Built, Period-Correct recreations of legendary gear made the AudioScape way!
This is OUR TAKE on CLASSIC RECORDING EQUIPMENT!
A FAITHFUL RECREATION OF “THE QUINTESSENTIAL” FET LIMITING AMPLIFIER
The 76D is a zero-compromise, FET compression circuit recreation that remains loyal to the distinct and remarkable sonority of the "Blackface" Revision.
The “D Revision” is admired for its punchy, thick, and harmonically complex tonality - this is *THE* product for those desiring to add the sound of an analog legend to their outboard collection!
The 76D completes our line-up of the most coveted and well-revered revisions of the ‘76 circuit - for the first time, THE HOLY TRINITY of CLASSIC FET Compression is available for ALL to enjoy!
EYEING THE PAST - NOS COMPONENTS and TRADITIONAL ANALOG CRAFTSMANSHIP = We are THE UPGRADE!
The original's charm and unique coloration were largely due to the iron used at the input. The 76D features a Cinemag CO-12 Input Transformer (the ONLY unit in this price range that uses this amazing transformer; We have heard and tried every type of modern transformer in the ‘76 circuit and this is by far the most authentic-sounding replica in production. Cinemag completely nailed it!
A HUGE part of the original unit’s sound is its lunatic fast attack/release time constants. This is a major area of interest for us, as many units do not faithfully represent the lighting-fast time constants of the original.
Using Vintage, NOS 70's FETs (the same FETs as used in the original unit) allows the 76D to exhibit the same blazing-fast attack and release times as coveted vintage units and allows users who are intimately familiar with the real deal to feel right at home.
PERIOD-CORRECT TIME CONSTANTS, ATTITUDE, and VINTAGE VIBE abound!
The 76D is FAST. As it should be. Lead Vocals, Bass GTR, Drum Rooms, Drum Shells, and much, much more all benefit from the punchy, thick attitude imbued by the 76D and its beautifully complex saturation - this is fixed threshold compression at its finest!
The 76D features the infamous “ALL BUTTONS IN” Ratio “Mode” (and any combination imaginable therein).
Another huge distinction that is a common thread amongst our entire range of products is the ability of the operator to PUSH the 76D to the edge (and beyond!) without EVER falling apart or crumbling like a dry coffee cake. Low-End retention is EXCELLENT even under HEAVY compression and is a testament to our alarmingly obsessive attention to sonic accuracy and detail!
PREMIUM, PREMIUM, PREMIUM!
True to AudioScape form, only the best parts that sonically'“fit” the accuracy of the unit are used.
Carbon Composition Resistors in the Audio Path and Precision Metal Film Resistors in the Side-Chain, a perfect marriage of sonic mojo and precision for the compression section to operate flawlessly for years to come but maintain its unique, vintage coloration and vibe.
A Triad Power Transformer and a Custom-Wound, Cinemag Output Transformer round out the feature-set of our 76A!
It’s all there….. in spades!
WHY SHOULD YOU BUY A 76D?
- Proudly built in small-batches from end to end on-site, in the USA by a small team of skilled assemblers. Each assembler is assigned 2 products, making them masters of their craft!
- KNOW where your hard-earned money is going and feel GOOD about ANY purchase made from us! Every dollar spent helps feed a family, fund college tuition and supports NEW product development / R & D!
- Our margins are very tight. BUT, this sacrifice allows us FULL control over EVERY aspect of the manufacturing and assembly process.
- We are able to capitalize on the USA surplus market and use NOS parts where it matters and most importantly, we are able to offer a product that is (in our biased opinions), simply a step above the competition. ;-)
AUDIOSCAPE offers a HASSLE-FREE, 2-YEAR WARRANTY included with EVERY unit we sell!

Tech rant:
These are classic compressors and to nail the sound you have to use the proper vintage style parts. Let’s start with the input transformer. The Cinemag CM-O12 is the best and closest recreation of the UTC O-12. During R & D we tried countless other types and compared it against 5 different original vintage O-12’s from different eras, the CM-O12 either matched or exceeded the vintage ones every single time, and no other current manufacturer came close in this test to nailing the perfect balance of saturation and the bigger sound the vintage units have. The input transformer is one of the most noticeable and quintessential parts, it’s one of the first components your signal hits. We wouldn’t make 76’s without this transformer, You use something else and it isn’t a 76’ in our humble opinion…
The components they used during the Rev D days don’t go hand in hand with the ‘mass produced’ mentality of manufacturing. In our experience, trying to do larger runs with heat sensitive parts like carbon comp resistors equals a much more noisy and out of whack product. The secret for inquiring minds? Be willing to work harder than anyone else. We’ll gladly give that trade secret away :-) We stuff the boards weekly by hand to ensure heat sensitive don’t get overheated during any part of the assembly process. We make everything end to end here, not ‘final assembly in USA’ or ‘designed in USA’. Every product is made by our audio loving hands here in Port Orange, FL. Made in the USA
Simply put, if you’re looking to capture the vintage sound of the Rev D, you aren’t going to get any closer than this, unless you buy vintage one for 15K. Please enjoy and make the music we all enjoy sound better!
