This is a faithful reproduction of the Vintage Shin-ei FY-2 Companion fuzz pedal featuring much needed upgrades for the modern workflow! 

At AudioScape we spared no expense in recreating the original circuit board material and components. Every component is hand selected and ear tested before the pedal ships out. We spend a lot of time just ear selecting the right transistors (not all are created equal!).

Most schematics we found called for Matsushita® 2SC536 transistors, but as we’ve seen many vintage Companion Fuzz’s open over the years we noticed various types were used. Our favorite sounding Companion, the one our new Companion+ was modeled after, had a pair of Matsushita® 2SC828’s. This iteration of the original pedal had the perfect balance of grit and grime without being too overblown.

Through some digging we were able to find a source for the original 2SC828 transistors and the first 100 Companion+ pedals will feature matched pairs of this rare and highly sought-after transistor. 

The added SCOOP tone control helps scoop out some of the muffled sound that can occur with certain pickups and thus adds more versatility to the pedal. You can also create some wild fuzz effects by working with the SCOOP control.

One problem inherent in the original Shin-ei units was a severe drop in gain when the FUZZ control was set to maximum. Our modern version includes a boost circuit added to keep the volume consistent, eliminating this issue and making the pedal much more usable live. Nothing worse than stomping on a pedal and getting an underwhelming volume drop. The boost circuit corrects this while retaining the inherent grind this juicy tone box is known for. 

The Companion+ is all hand-wired and features premium Gorva® true bypass switches, Neutrik® jacks, and premium Alpha® pots. It runs on a standard center negative 9V Boss®-style adapter or 9V battery. 

Each unit is solid and built to last with a rugged case and lock washers so jacks and pots don't shift and move around over time.
