Derek says that the BeesNeez capsule is one of the best K47s on the market - a true historic recreation! The original K47 capsule was the heart of the classic Neumann U47, U48 and M49. 

Each K47 capsule is entirely manufactured and personally hand-lapped by the BeesNeez Team with care and attention.

The BeesNeez K47 sounds markedly different from the V13’s standard capsule, featuring the things we know and love about 47-style designs - a thick low end, punchy presence in the 3-5k region, and a smooth, gently rolled off top end that often feels more “record-ready” than than Neumann’s later 67/87 design, while being more forgiving and natural sounding in off-axis situations. These capsules are custom-wired for Vanguard by Ben at BeesNeez with Teflon-insulated, silver-plated stranded 28awg wire.

Also featured in this custom-shop offering is the Cinemag transformer, replacing Vanguard’s standard V13 transformer. Made in the USA in Ventura, California, Cinemags are some of the best transformers currently available, with rich harmonics and that delicious je ne sais quoi that only high-quality audio transformers can provide. With humbucking rejection, low distortion, and superb bandwidth, these transformers take the already-scrumptious V13 gen2 to new levels of delicious sonic flavor.

The Cinemag adds subtle improvements, particularly in the high end and crucial mid-range frequencies for vocals. Says Derek, “Because of the larger transformer core, it can also handle higher SPL sources before saturation, giving the V13 more clean headroom for things like guitar amp and kick drum mic'ing.”

Each of these custom beauties will be assembled, tested, inspected and certified, with love, by Vanguard’s Mic-Guru-in-Chief Derek Bargaehr in Hatfield, Pennsylvania.
