Faircomp 670 Stereo Vari-Mu Limiter

Faircomp 670 Stereo Vari-Mu Limiter
PRICE AND RELEASE DATE COMING SOON: AudioScape’s take on the Fairchild® 670, a painstakingly reconstructed part-for-part recreation of the most legendary tube limiter in audio history.
The Faircomp 670 is the result of over 6 years and thousands of hours of grueling R&D devoted to a single purpose: the most authentic, part-for-part build of the Fairchild® 670 limiter one could possibly bring about this side of the 20th century, with some tasteful modern additions that make it more flexible for modern studio use. Loaded with 22 tubes, many of them NOS, the Faircomp 670 is the only recreation on the market (under 35K) to incorporate an authentic and vintage-accurate tube power supply - a part of the circuit often (and wrongly!) dismissed as irrelevant to the sound. Constructed from premium, period-correct components and expanded with a carefully chosen set of non-invasive mods, this is truly the “fairest of them all” - a zero-compromise, hand-built 670 recreation that captures the sheer glory and euphonic sonics of the analog recording era.

AUDIOSCAPE FAIRCOMP 670: THE FAIREST OF THEM ALL
R&D on the Faircomp 670 began sometime in 2019, just three years into AudioScape’s run as a company. The goal was the same as with any AS product: build the most accurate version of a vintage circuit possible, taking advantage of the US vintage and NOS component market to literally part-for-part recreate original designs to the highest standard of quality, while keeping the cost “fair” to our loyal and dedicated customers. (See what we did there?)
It quickly became clear there was simply no way to build this circuit right for less than $10k (in 2019 dollars!), but we were determined to do it right, and keep it as affordable as humanly possible. We actually had a prototype ready just a year or two into development, but hit a couple snags that would have required a few compromises in the circuit design. Nothing life-changing, but it wouldn’t be the best Fairchild® it could be, nor the unit it is today. So we kept going!
Needless to say, some things happened between 2019 and 2026. The world has changed a lot, and so have we. We’ve grown a lot as a company and released several times as many new products as we even had available at the time. But dev never stopped on the Faircomp, and though it would have been much easier to call it sooner and release a “good enough” version - or take preorder deposits to help fund a very expensive development process - we never felt that would be fair to our customers. Asking anybody to drop $7-8k on an audio product is a lot in and of itself. A product like this is a big investment for anybody, and we weren’t going to put one up for sale until we knew it was a fair and done deal.
THE MOST AUTHENTIC 670 AVAILABLE, PERIOD.
When we say the Faircomp is as faithful to the original 670 as you can get today, we mean it. Virtually no expense was spared to nail this design. Just getting the bias choke right - a part of the circuit that, if it failed, could wreak havoc downstream - took years, all of which could have been saved with the solid state rectifier most other claimed “Fairchildren” have opted for. But as any guitar amp nerd can tell you, solid state and tube rectifiers sound different. They react different. Four tubes in a power supply DOES make a difference. We wanted this “child” to be legitimate, so we stuck with the original tube design and bias supply until we got it right.
With period-correct components throughout like Cornell Dubilier and precision Vishay Dale resistors, we are fully confident this is the best 670 money can buy.
VINTAGE ACCURACY + MODERN FLEXIBILITY
We’ve added a few modern features, too. In keeping with our zero-compromise approach to “mods,” none of these affect the core audio circuit or behavior of the unit, but instead expand its flexibility in the modern studio. These include:
Adjustable sidechain high-pass filter (HPF)
Adjustable DC bias/threshold
M/S and dual mono/Stereo modes (building on the Lat/Vert functionality of the original)
Dry/Wet “Blend” control for parallel compression on the fly
Hard wired true bypass
Security Panel Available
Option Acrylic or Black Steel Lower Control Panel (Black Steel Pictured)
We couldn’t be prouder of this unit, and we’re incredibly excited to finally share it with the world!
