The Neumann U 47 FET Collector's Edition is a solid-state condenser microphone, reissued by Neumann in 2014 based on the classic U 47 fet from 1972. It is built using the original production schematics and components, including the famous K 47 capsule, to replicate the sound of the original. This mic is very versatile and perfect for Kick Drums, Vocals, Acoustic Instruments, Loud Sources, and Bass Instruments.
Key features:
FET 80 circuitry: This design provides a wide dynamic range and allows for clean, high-fidelity recordings
K 47 capsule: The dual large-diaphragm capsule offers a balanced and detailed sound with a slight presence boost in the upper midrange (around 2-5 kHz), which helps vocals and instruments cut through a mix
High SPL handling: It can handle up to 137 dB SPL, or 147 dB with the -10 dB pre-attenuation pad engaged, making it suitable for loud sources like kick drums and guitar amplifiers
Switchable filters and pads: The mic has a switchable low-cut filter (140 Hz) to combat proximity effect, a -10 dB attenuation pad for high SPL sources, and an additional -6 dB output switch on the base to prevent preamp overload
